Fi...The trap Ike was founf in was a Conibear trap. First designed by Frank Conibear in the 1950's in Canada. It was designed to kill fast. It is known to kill a lot of dogs and cats. It can also take fingers off and can smash feet if accidently stepped on.

The trap Ike was caught in was not hidden. It was set in the open end of a bucket and bait was placed inside the bucket to attract prey. The trap was not marked for ownership, it was not anchored to anything to prevent it from moving from the original location it was set and it was baited. There are no trapping or hunting seasons open. The trap was odviously not checked either as Ike was found 32 days after he disappeared. The level of decomp showed that he had been laying there for some time.

Beware of such traps. They have also been found set in ditches in the area. Call your local law enforcement and the DNR if you see any such traps or if you see people with bait going in to secluded or protected areas. Bait can consist of old meat or suit, guts from field dressed animals, pieces of fresh or spoiling hides to any food product that might attract the prey. Baiting for deer would be greens and other produce like apples and vegetables.

Help stop the killing of pets with these traps and the poaching of other animals by trapping rather then legal hunting.
